WIN a scholarship to the Mission Discovery summer school

We are giving away two full scholarships to the exciting Mission Discovery summer school!

What is Mission discovery?

Imagine if you were given the chance to design an experiment that actually made it to the ISS… it could kickstart a career, or it might help turn your degree into a doctorate.

Well, the International Space School Education Trust (ISSET), together with Imperial College, London, are offering just such an opportunity.

In August, Imperial College is opening its doors and hosting Summer School: Mission Discovery.

During the week-long course, students will get to design an experiment for the ISS and then the best design will be built and carried into space on board a Russian Progress spacecraft in October.

But what happens if you get stuck for ideas? Well, ISSET has recruited some Nasa experts to help out. During the course, you will be able to pick the brains of a former astronaut, a former director of Nasa’s Kennedy Space Center, a satellite engineer and an astronaut trainer.

What can I win?

Cosm is offering two full scholarships to the course, which runs from Monday, August 1 to Friday August 5.

The scholarships include two places on the course, travel and accomodation!

(Unfortunately, we can only cover the student's expenses and not those of a parent or guardian)

How can I enter?

It's simple – all you have to do is sell yourself and ask a question!

Email us at win@cosmonline.co.uk and write a mini-essay explaining (in no more than 150 words) why you should be chosen to receive the scholarship.

Also, Cosm will be interviewing Mike McCulley (former Nasa astronaut) and Jay Honeycutt (former Director of Nasa's Kennedy Space Centre), so you entry must include a question for them to answer.

The winners will be the entries with best mini-essay and the most insightful question.

Please ensure that you provide:

  1. You name
  2. Your age
  3. Your contact details
  4. Your mini-essay
  5. Your question (don't forget to tell us who the question is intended for!)

The competition closes on Friday, June 10 and winners will be informed by email the following week.

Entrants under 18 years of age must have permission from a parent or guardian to be able to attend the course. You must be available to attend the course which runs from August 1 to August 5.

Don't forget - this isn't just a competition for young people. It is open to anyone over 14 years of age!

GOOD LUCK!

Don't forget, even if you don't win a place on the scholarship, this is still a fantastic once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that shouldn't be missed. You can find out more about the course here, or at the Mission Discovery homepage here
